The Office of Emergency Medical Services at NHTSA asks for your help in getting the word out to your members about the danger of heatstroke when children are left in cars. Please help us raise public awareness about the dangers of kids in cars.
July 31 is National Heatstroke Prevention Day. Join us for a day of social media conversation. On this day, we ask that you and your members tweet and post on Facebook every hour on the hour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. @NHTSAgov will be using the hashtag #heatstroke on all its social media posts and asks you to do the same. No child should die of heatstroke from being left alone in a hot car! So, please join us on July 31st to help stop this 100-percent preventable tragedy.

Symptoms of Heat Stroke
The hallmark symptom of heat stroke is a core body temperature above 105 degrees Fahrenheit. But fainting may be the first sign.
Other symptoms may include:
- Throbbing headache
- Dizziness and light-headedness
- Lack of sweating despite the heat
- Red, hot, and dry skin
- Muscle weakness or cramps
- Nausea and vomiting
- Rapid heartbeat, which may be either strong or weak
- Rapid, shallow breathing
- Behavioral changes such as confusion, disorientation, or staggering
- Seizures
- Unconsciousness
