One week after being convicted of drunk driving, Cleveland City Councilman Zack Reed was forced to defend himself in a debate, Tuesday night.
Reed faces three challengers in his bid for re-election.
One of those challengers, Marcus Henley, wasted no time before mentioning Reed’s three drunk driving convictions since 2005. “I have no criminal history. I have no criminal record. I know you in Ward 2 and it is a lot of rhetoric. I know you don’t want to be represented by a criminal. The last time I checked, what he got convicted of was a crime. He is being sentenced for a crime,” Henley said.
Before responding to his first debate question, Reed answered Henley directly, saying, “Let’s not say what I did is going to negotiate and navigate what I’m going to be in the future. I made a mistake. I’ve learned from that mistake. I’m going to get help for that mistake and I’m going to work as hard as I can to solve these problems that (the debate moderator) talked about.”
