Jennifer Hudson and Jacob Latimore in “Black Nativity”

Jennifer Hudson says “Black Nativity” was one of dozens of musicals sent to her in the years after winning an Academy Award for “Dreamgirls.”

She had turned them all down in favor of more dramatic fare, like “The Secret Life of Bees,” “Winnie Mandela” and the forthcoming “The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete.”

But “Black Nativity” was different.

“What got me with this one was just the fact that it was a holiday film, and I’m a holiday fanatic,” Hudson told us during interviews for the film last weekend. “And it’s something that brings families together, and I wanted to be a part of that because I feel like we don’t have enough of that around.”
