An army of Brunswick high school students gathered last week to bake cookies, not for Christmas, but to help those in need in the Philippines. 60 students baked and bagged more than 7,000 cookies. The students raised more than $3,500 for the victims of the typhoon by passing out the cookies after mass and collecting donations from parishioners.

Brunswick High School students Rachel Gaylord and Kevin Stankiewicz, Homecoming King and Queen helped organize the event. “Cookies for a Cause made real change. It made a difference and the people at Saint Ambrose are committed to making a difference in every way possible,” said Stankiewicz.

Gaylord and Stankiewicz also helped organize “High Schoolers for the Heartland,” a charity garage sale that raised almost $3,000 for tornado victims in Oklahoma. “What is inspiring is that our teens want to help.
