The City of Cleveland is stepping up security at its pools and recreation centers this summer. The announcement comes after a particularly violent weekend in the city that left four people dead in separate incidents.
“Because we know we have higher incidents of gun violence throughout this community and all of the urban centers across this country, we wanted to make sure we put a different level, another umbrella, over those particular locations,” said Michael McGrath, Cleveland Safety Director.
The new plan calls for one off-duty police officer to be stationed at every recreation center in the city Monday – Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday from 2-6 pm for the summer. There are 22 recreation centers total.
An off-duty officer will also be stationed at 11 of the city’s pools for the summer from 12-8 p.m. on days they are open.
