Whoever listened to the music of Trin-tee 5:7 in the late 90’s/early 20’s could not have missed the sultry contralto voice of Chanel especially on singles like God’s Grace, Holla and Spiritual Love. The music of the ladies in Trin-tee 5:7 has always been pop RnB held back with a weightiness in the form of soul. Leaning more to Bar stage soul mixed with Anita Baker/Toni Braxtontype RnB is what Chanel offers on Trin-i-tee 5:7: According To Chanel.

For one thing, this project is one that would grow on you over time. Even though, some tracks still stand out from first listen. On the opening track, Repay, Chanel reminiscences the goodness of God and on how He has kept her and how sure she is of one fact: He still has work for her to do on earth. Though Superstar might come across as clumsy and like a square in a round hole theme and music wise for the album overall, it’s hard to miss. Prayer, one of my overall favorite on the record, is a ballad stripped down enough to show Chanel’s voice at its best. It would remind you of everything we loved from the early days of Nicole C. Mullen. ‘Masterful’ leaning into the Neo-soul genre is unique in its entirety and such a song.
