The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio has approved the Winter Reconnect Order to help Ohioans stay warm during the winter.
Between October 19, 2015 and April 15, 2016, any customer of a PUCO-regulated utility can take advantage of the order.
The Winter Reconnect Order allows Ohioans to avoid utility disconnection, or to reconnect their gas or electric service once during the winter heating season.
Customers who use Order must pay the utility $175 plus any reconnection charge up to $36. If the reconnection fee is more than $36 the balance may be billed to the customer the following month.
There is no income requirement to utilize the Winter Reconnect Order.
Officials say last winter, more than 270,000 Ohio utility customers utilized the order.
