October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Dallas mega pastor Bishop T.D. Jakes is doing his part to bring awareness.

Sunday, at the Potter’s House, he is asking church attendees to wear purple for the specially-themed service, “Purple Has A Voice.”

Jakes, 58, has an active domestic violence ministry at his church and believes that addressing the issue once annually is not nearly enough.

In an interview with Dallas Morning News, he said, many churches “have this need to appear perfect. And there is this innate belief that this is not a reality in our church, that we are good people.”

Jakes continued, “But you can be a good person and have a bad problem and if we open that discussion we will have done God a great service.”
