Turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and more: that’s what people got at St. Augustine’s and at 15 shelters downtown, on the east side and as far west as Huron County.

Many of the recipients are homeless, some have no family. Others are like L.K. Alexander – he says he’s a veteran who was homeless for seven years – oftentimes going to St. Augustine’s to get food.

Now he comes back because he says he lives alone, enjoys the company and the taste of a home-cooked meal. And today, he said he gives thanks for a better life.

“It’s more beautiful today. I have a piece of mind. I don’t have to worry about my next meal, where I’m going to stay when it gets cold, what I’m going to do. I’m just grateful.”
