The Cleveland Municipal Court is one of only ten in the nation to receive funding to implement a community court.

The court announced Thursday that it was named a 2016 Community Court Grant Program winner.

As part of the partnership between the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and the Center for Court innovation, the Cleveland Community Court will receive $200,000 in funding.

The court will serve the entire city of Cleveland as well as the Village of Bratenahl.

Community courts order criminals to pay back the communities they’ve harmed through community service projects like painting over graffiti, beautifying neighborhood parks and cleaning up litter and debris from streets.
