– “Help me, I’m Amanda Berry.”

It’s the 911 call that captured global attention.

“I’ve been kidnapped and I’ve been missing for 10 years and I’m here, I’m free now.”

That moment took place three years ago Friday as Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight escaped years of captivity from inside Ariel Castro’s home on Seymour Avenue.

Castro, who was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years, committed suicide behind bars just weeks after his punishment was issued.

In the years that have passed, Michelle Knight was the first to tell her story publicly with multiple appearances on Dr. Phil.

Her book, Finding Me, was released on the one-year anniversary of their escape. The book quickly became a best-seller.

Amanda and Gina, however, remained mostly out of the public eye until their first nationally televised interview aired last year. The duo released Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland, a book depicting their story.

Michelle has since changed her name to Lillian Rose Lee.
