Avon police are handing their investigation of a hotel clerk over to the Lorain County prosecutor’s office.

Last week, a hotel clerk called police claiming a guest was overheard pledging his allegiance to ISIS in the hotel lobby.

The caller reported her sister told her there was a male in the lobby “in full head dress with multiple disposable phones pledging his allegiance to ISIS.”

Avon Police then received a second 911 call from the desk clerk’s father who also requested assistance on behalf of his daughter.

Police responded and detained the man before determining that the allegations were false.

Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen said the incident would have been handled differently if police had received more accurate information, according to a news release.

Jensen also said that police followed proper protocol.

The Lorain County prosecutor will decide if criminal charges are necessary.
