Many Christians would readily agree that being Christian and anti-abortion go hand-in-hand. But what about opposing the death penalty?

While Americans span the gamut in their position on capital punishment, a Christian activist and author believes all Christians should oppose punishing criminals by death.

Shane Claiborne, who, along with EEW Magazine’s President, Dianna Hobbs, recently sat on a PBS panel about faith and guns, spoke to Relevant Magazine about his views.

“Pro-life has come just to mean anti-abortion,” said the leader of Simple Way community in Philadelphia, who also authored Executing Grace: How the Death Penalty Killed Jesus and It’s Killing Us. “I really believe abortion is an urgently important issue. But it’s not the only life issue.”

For Claiborne, being pro-life should equal being anti-death in every form.

“This idea that we want to be pro-life from the womb to the tomb, from the cave to the grave, is so beautiful. That leads me to care about Black Lives Matter. It leaves me to care about gun violence and the death penalty,” he explained.
