New Use of Force Policies developed by the Cleveland Division of Police in cooperation with the Consent Decree Monitoring Team, the Department of Justice and the United States Attorney’s Office were released for public comment, according to a news release.

Mayor Frank G. Jackson and Chief of Police Calvin D. Williams welcome and encourage the public to participate in this feedback process prior to the development of final policies, which are anticipated to become effective in early 2017.

“The City of Cleveland is fully committed to implementing the reforms as set out in the Consent Decree,” said Mayor Jackson in the release. “Employing new and improved Use of Force Policies is an important step towards achieving this goal.”
