Before we get to the list, here a few notes about movies set in Cleveland:

  • Howard the Duck was set in Cleveland. We mention this for its notably low Tomatometer rating of 15 percent. Some movies are so bad they’re good, but Howard the Duck is not one of them.
  • Telling Lies in America netted a 63 percent on the Tomatometer. The film is described by Wikipedia as a semi-autobiographical tale from Joe Eszterhas. We mention this to make another point about the Tomatometer — Flash Dance got a 33, so take all of this with a grain of salt.
  • Before we get to the list, it is hopefully reassuring that Draft Dayand The Rocker starring Rainn Wilson did not make the Top Five, upping the overall quality and sanctity of the list.

The Tomatometer scores are listed below the movie titles. Enjoy.

5) Antwone Fisher (2002)

79 percent

Autobiographical drama from Antwone Fisher, who is from Cleveland. Fisher (Derek Luke), a sailor in the Navy, sees a psychiatrist (Denzel Washington) about his constant fighting. Fisher confronts is past in the process.

4) F.I.S.T. (1978)

80 percent

A 1930s labor movement movie in which Sylvester Stallone plays the trucker protagonist.

3) Major League (1989)

82 percent

I thought Major League had a chance to be No. 1, I really did. Let the record show that Major League II did not have an official consensus Tomatometer score, though the audience score was 45 percent.
