Cleveland City Council introduced a legislation Monday night that would help to stop a rash of ATM smash-and-grabs that have been taking place all over the city.

The legislation was sponsored by Councilmen Anthony Brancatelli and Mike Polensek and would require ATM machine owners to be registered with the city and obtain annual licenses from the city

The legislation would also regulate the placing and installation of the machines. The machines would be placed away from the front of buildings and the stores’ entrance walls and instead be bolted to a brick or concrete wall with heavy duty brackets and fasteners. The machines would also be bolted into the floor and have GPS tracking devices in them.
