The frigid weather is taking perhaps its harshest toll on our area’s homeless.
Several organizations are helping those who may be the most vulnerable as temps become even more brutal.
Just last night, 80 people in Cuyahoga County alone stayed In overnight drop-in shelters set up only when temperatures drop below twenty degrees
60 people are reportedly braving the elements and sleeping outside.
Sub zero mission out of Painesville for example is collecting items to keep the homeless from being left out in the cold without supplies… Last year the organization delivered more than 5-thousand new socks. The organization proves tents, sleeping bags, jackets boots and other worming items so that no one in America freezes to death.

The Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless is an umbrella organization providing tools to help end homelessness. The umbrella organization works with non-profit, religious and community organizations to provide a network of coverage.
Knight Riders Weekly Mobile Relief Ministry Unit with Saint Paschal’s Church provides meals to homeless people by delivering warming items to where they may be staying outside.

According to the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, if a person decides to brave the cold temps and finds themselves sitting on something as frigid as cement their risk of dying is 8 times greater than people who live in homes, especially if the homeless person has previously had frostbite or hypothermia.
