The holidays don’t feel joyful for everyone, especially for those mourning the loss of loved ones. Yet, God’s word brings peace, hope and comfort to the broken.

The Christmas season marks a time of celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. While that makes our heart rejoice, for some, their heart aches during this season due to loss of a loved one.

If you or someone you know is missing a family member or friend who has passed, here are 7 biblical verses to help bring peace and comfort.

#1 Psalm 18:2 (NIV)- “The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Winning the battle against shattered emotions isn’t easy. You don’t have the strength to do it on your own, so cling to the Lord and rely on His strength to sustain you through this difficult time.

#2 Psalm 147:3 (NIV)- “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” God is a healer, so give your hurt to Him. Allow the Lord to soothe you in your time of distress. He is able to bind the wounds left by loss.

#3 Psalm 34:22 (NLT)- “But the LORD will redeem those who serve him. No one who takes refuge in him will be condemned.” When children of God die, they depart this earth and ascend into the Heavenly realm to be in the company of Christ. We, too, will be there someday. Though it’s painful to say goodbye and not see their face in this world, be comforted by knowing you will one day see them again in Heaven.
