Former President Jimmy Carter is expected to be released Wednesday morning from MetroHealth Medical Center where he opted to spend the night at the recommendation of his doctor. 

He was rushed to the hospital  after experiencing an upset stomach during a flight to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport Tuesday morning.

President Carter, 85, had come to Cleveland to sign copies of his new book “White House Diary” expected at Joseph-Beth Booksellers in Legacy Village.

Two similar events scheduled for Wednesday in Washington, D.C. remain on the former president’s agenda.

The White House says President Barack Obama phoned Carter at MetroHealth from Air Force One while traveling to Wisconsin.  White House Spokesperson Bill Burton says Carter told the President he was feeling great.
