Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft, is dead at 65:

Paul Allen, the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft, died Monday. He was an investor, entrepreneur and philanthropist who influenced many aspects of modern life — from technology and science to sports and music.

Allen was 65, his investment firm Vulcan said in a statement announcing his death. He died in Seattle from complications related to non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma two weeks after Allen said he was being treated for the disease.
Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, like the less-common Hodgkin’s disease, is a cancer of the lymphatic system.

Contestants accuse Mrs. America pageant president of racist remarks:

Three African-American state pageant winners said they were expecting to have the time of their lives at the 2018 Mrs. America competition in Las Vegas in August.

Instead, they say the pageant’s white CEO and president insulted them in a conversation in which he used the N-word and invoked racist stereotypes that demeaned the African-American community.
The women shared their accusations against David Marmel in a news conference Monday with their lawyer, Gloria Allred. A white contestant who said she overheard the conversation also shared her account.

‘The Conners’ lays foundation for life after ‘Roseanne:

Morbid curiosity surely surrounds “The Conners,” the zombie sitcom raised from the dead after “Roseanne” was canceled, then revived without the show’s controversial namesake and star, Roseanne Barr. Whether or not the series has legs — as opposed to temporarily plugging the gaping hole left in ABC’s schedule — the producers and network have seemingly done what they can to make the best of a bad situation.
What “The Conners” has going for it, which shouldn’t be underestimated, are a couple of world-class actors in John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf as the one-time title character’s husband Dan and sister Jackie. They shoulder more of the load, as does Sara Gilbert as daughter Darlene, in what has grown to be an even larger ensemble with grandkids as part of the mix

Thai cave boys surprised by their hero Zlatan on US talk show ‘Ellen’:

The Thai soccer team whose escape from a waterlogged cave transfixed the world appeared on the US talk show “Ellen” on Monday, where they had a surprise meeting with their hero soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Dressed in the jerseys of their “Wild Boars” soccer team, the 12 young Thai boys and their coach joined host Ellen DeGeneres to discuss their tense rescue in July.
International cave diving experts evacuated the team members one-by-one through the submerged cave system, in a carefully coordinated operation that captured the world’s attention.
As a present, DeGeneres gifted each of the team a personalized soccer jersey with her logo on the front. Then, after asking who their favorite player was, the host revealed football star Ibrahimovic.

President Trump raises more than $100 million for 2020 re-election:

President Donald Trump has raised more than $100 million for a re-election battle that is more than two years away, giving him a massive financial advantage over a crowded field of potential Democratic contenders jockeying to challenge him in 2020.

The President raised more than $18 million during the July-to-September fundraising quarter through his campaign committee and the joint fundraising operations he maintains with the Republican National Committee, according to his campaign and filings Monday night with Federal Election Commission. That haul means his re-election effort’s war chest now exceeds $106 million.
Trump’s campaign ended last month with more $35.4 million in available cash stockpiled in its bank account.
