Defiant and divisive, Trump set to honor Pittsburgh victims:

President Donald Trump travels to Pittsburgh on Tuesday after the worst anti-Semitic crime in American history, bringing with him a pulsing anger that his rhetoric is being blamed for the attack and intent on proving to his critics he can behave like a president.

For Trump, the role of consoler has sometimes come uneasily and, in his view, without tangible benefit. Trump has complained in the past that so-called “presidential” moments have gone unnoticed by his critics and unheralded in the media, leading him to wonder what the point of it all was.

USAG directs head tumbling coach for the 2018 U.S. World Championships Team to resign:

USA Gymnastics has called for its head tumbling coach of the 2018 U.S. World Championships team to resign from that role pending an investigation into a report filed with a nonprofit aimed at eliminating abuse in amateur and professional sports.

Sergio Galvez also will not travel with the team to the 2018 Trampoline and Tumbling World Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia, set to be held from Nov. 7-10 “to maintain a safe environment for its athletes,” the sport’s embattled governing body said Friday in a press release.
It is not clear what is alleged in the report filed with the US Center for SafeSport. The US Olympic Committee agency that oversees sexual misconduct and other abuse allegations reported to national governing bodies said it does not speak about specific matters according to its polic

Kroger shooting in Kentucky is being investigated as a hate crime:

The fatal shooting of two black people in a Kroger grocery store in Kentucky is being investigated as a hate crime, Jeffersontown Mayor Bill Dieruf told CNN on Monday.

Gregory A. Bush, a white 51-year-old, is accused of killing Maurice Stallard, 69, and Vickie Jones, 67, last Wednesday inside the Jeffersontown grocery store and in the parking lot, respectively.
Prior to the shooting, Bush allegedly tried to enter a predominantly black church nearby but was unable to get inside, officials said. When that attempt failed, he went to Kroger instead and opened fire in the store.
Dieruf also said investigators are looking into reports that Bush told a bystander before he was captured that “whites don’t shoot whites.”

George Clooney wins Hollywood’s Halloween:

Despite his A-list celebrity status, George Clooney spent this past weekend like most new parents — changing diapers.

The actor skipped an over-the-top costume party for his tequila line Casamigos on Friday to stay home with his 16-month-old twins, Ella and Alexander.
“Last night, [Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber] were dressed up as rock stars, and I was dressed up as a guy cleaning crap out of a baby’s diaper,” Clooney told Entertainment Tonightabout his absence from the event. “It was a fantastic costume. Oh, so much fun, you could imagine the fun I had last night.

What “For Colored Girls” meant to us:

As a beautiful writer once said, and it seems all the more worth repeating now: “I’m a firm believer that language and how we use language determines how we act, and how we act then determines our lives and other people’s lives.”

In the midst of a wrenching week, when there has been so much to mourn, we also feel the loss of the poet, novelist, and pioneering voice who wrote those words about the power of language. Ntozake Shange died Saturday in Maryland at the age of 70, according to the Star Tribune. News of her death was also provided by her family on Twitter.
