Disney is working on building up its upcoming streaming service, Disney+, into a powerhouse right out of the gate. In addition to original series based around Marvel and Star Wars, the streaming service will reportedly be the home for the long-rumored Sister Act 3. However, this comes with a major caveat — because Whoopi Goldberg reportedly won’t be involved with the new film.
First arriving in theaters in 1992, Sister Act follows Delores, a Reno lounge singer who witnesses her mob boss boyfriend commit a murder. She enters witness protection and is placed with a new identity in a convent in San Fransisco. Delores learns to adjust to her drastically new lifestyle, making friends with the nuns while bringing nationwide fame to the convent’s choir.
The original was pretty successful, scoring $231 million worldwide. It was closely followed by a sequel in one year later, Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit. This time Delores is brought back to the convent to help teach the music class for a down-on-its-luck Catholic school.
