Joe Biden’s 2020 chances might be stronger than we think:

Former Vice President Joe Biden is thinking about running for president, yet few seem to think he’s the frontrunner for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination.

The reasons to be suspect are plenty including his record (fairly mainstream in a party moving to the left), his age (he’s 76) and the fact that he’s a white male in a diversifying party that nominated women in record numbers in 2018.

But maybe — just maybe — we’re underestimating Biden’s strength. Let’s go through some key points working in Biden’s favor.

Donald Trump’s constant, escalating test to the rule of law:

He may be an imperfect messenger, but James Comey’s warning is still chilling.

The former FBI chief is calling out what he sees as an increasingly obvious and disturbing trend: The President of the United States, far from upholding the rule of law, frequently seeks to shape it for personal and political gain.
In just the last few days, President Donald Trump has jumped into active court cases, attacked legally supported investigations and put his own political goals ahead of judicial conventions that underpin the independent legal system.

Geoffrey Rush denies allegations of improper conduct with former co-star:

Oscar-winner Geoffrey Rush has denied claims he acted inappropriately toward an actress more than seven years ago.

Yael Stone, who appeared in “Orange is the New Black” on Netflix, said in a series of interviews with Australia’s ABC News and The New York Times that Rush sent sexually suggestive text messages, exposed himself and attempted to watch her shower during their stint together in “Diary of a Madman” at Sydney’s Belvoir Street Theatre in 2010 and 2011.
Rush, who starred as Captain Hector Barbossa in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and won an Academy Award for his portrayal of pianist David Helfgott in “Shine,” was 59 at the time. Stone was 25 and played a relatively minor part in the play, according to the ABC.
In a statement to CNN, Rush said that Stone’s allegations were incorrect.

Why ‘justice’ prevailed in 2018, according to Merriam-Websters:

Robert Mueller’s investigation of US President Donald Trump; Brett Kavanaugh’s tense hearings in Congress; the fight for social, racial and gender equality: the past year has seen an absorbing and tumultuous news cycle.

And now, “justice” — the crux of some of the most gripping stories of the past 12 months — has been recognized for its central place in the public consciousness.
US publishing company Merriam-Webster has named the noun its Word of the Year for 2018, after it saw a 74% spike in look-ups compared with 2017.
“The concept of justice was at the center of many of our national debates in the past year: racial justice, social justice, criminal justice, economic justice,” the company said when explaining its choic

The Peanuts gang is getting new life thanks to Apple:

The Peanuts gang is ready for some new adventures.

Apple has struck a deal with DHX Media to produce new series, specials and shorts based on the beloved characters from the animated world created by Charles M. Schulz, a source familiar with the deal tells CNN.
Apple has yet to announce the name of its official television service, the cost of its content or details on how it will be accessed, even as it builds a trove of upcoming projects.
As part of the deal, DHX, which co-owns the world of Peanuts along with Sony Music Entertainment and the Schulz family, will create short-form STEM-related content for Apple. (Think astronaut Snoopy.)
