Two boys, ages 13 and 14, are suspects in the shooting death of a 14-year-old girl in Canton on Saturday morning, according to Canton police.

Sylvia McGhee, 14, was found near 11th Street SW and Bieyl Court SW, not far from her mother’s home, around 4 a.m., police said. Sylvia was found shot in the back of the head and was pronounced dead on the scene at 5:01 a.m., according to the Stark County Coroner.

She didn’t even have a chance,” said Sylvia Milina, a grieving grandmother who shared her first name with the shooting victim. “She didn’t have a chance.”

The teen’s family is convinced Sylvia was lured out of the home, possibly by a text or a social media message, before she was killed.

“It was like it was a set up to me because she’s never been out at that time,” Milina said.

Captain Dave Davis said detectives are now focusing on two teenage suspects who were both questioned, and knew Sylvia.
