Winter like weather caused severe problems early this morning across much of Virginia and North Carolina road ways with icy and black ice conditions.  Several fender benders were reported along with one accident that stopped the congregation of The Mount in its tracks.

Involved were Mrs. Audrey Ward, and Shevika Ward; the fiancé’ of Gospel recording artist Minister Earl Bynum.

The two were heading to their home church, The Mount around 7:40am, Sunday, December 5, when their car hit a patch of black ice, then a pole and landed in an embankment on North Landing in Chesapeake, VA.  The car was totaled and Shevika had to be cut out from the car.  Both were taken to Chesapeake Regional Medical Center.

After examination, doctors said that Shevika broke her pelvis and her mother had swelling in her ligaments in her leg.  Both have been released from the hospital however Shevika is currently on a walker.  Doctors say it will take 6 to 8 weeks for a full recovery as long as she takes it easy.

Minister Bynum said, “I received the call at 7:40am and left immediately.  Many of the deacons from the church were already at the hospital when I got there.  The church lifted them up in prayer and has simply been amazing!”
