Among the factors leading to the rise, according to Tri-C officials:
- Roughly 28 percent more students are taking courses online, many of them to get a class or two under their belts while working a summer job.
- Students are staying on track with continually updated information, such as individualized online pie charts that show their progress toward an associate’s degree or certification.
- The poor economy has brought displaced workers back to school for retraining. And more traditional-age students are choosing community colleges to save money on the first two years of college.
