Dear First Lady Michelle Obama:
Just like the basketball players have been locked out from playing basketball, we are calling upon you to lock out the “Basketball Wives” franchise. Its founder and executive producer is Shaq’s former wife, Shaunie O’Neal, who, by the way, has distanced herself from the pornographic vulgarities of this constantly playing garbage.
We are calling on you, for your daughters’ sake, for your mother’s sake, for my daughters’ sake, and for the sake of young black women and young women of all races, to contact Shaunie O’Neal and encourage her to shut down “Basketball Wives” no matter how much money it might cost her. It’s not worth perpetuating the awful stereotypes that people in this country have about black women.
These women, who call each other “bitches” and “whores” even in casual greetings, are tearing down everything you and your mother are trying to build up as far as setting a positive example for not only black women, but all women to follow. CNN commentator, Roland Martin, has condemned this foolishness along with a host of others, and we are calling upon you, our sister in Christ and a shining example of beauty and class, to add your voice and condemn what we believe to be the most destructive show that young women of all races have ever seen since the beginning of television.
