From New Tech at East Tech to Campus International School, the Cleveland Metropolitan School District hopes its many schools of choice will help convince families to come back to the district.

“We’ve lost 30,000 kids in the last decade alone,” CEO Eric Gordon said.

Some of the students have gone on to charter and parochial schools.  Others have moved out of the city. 

Declining enrollment has contributed to CMSD’s $66 million-budget deficit. Cleveland residents can weigh in on what they think should be done to balance the budget by going to  www.cmsdnet.net and taking the online budget survey.

Cleveland schools hope to recruit students on Saturday when it showcases its high performing schools at a Rally for Excellence. In addition to families who have left the district, the schools will also market themselves to families who are still here who may not know about all of the choices available to them.
