In a surprise visit to Chambers Elementary School on Shaw Avenue in East Cleveland, an East Cleveland judge took his family’s foundation to the heart of a problem: Cold kids.

After hearing of a city-wide problem of school children walking to and from school without warm enough outer clothing in frigid temperatures, Judge William L. Dawson, his brother Wayne, and concerned father Keith Balfour worked with the East Cleveland school district to make sure needy children without coats were fitted with coats, hats, and gloves Monday.

“We have a need in East Cleveland with our young people and my wife even saw some kids walking to school without coats, so we just decided to get on board, team up with our foundation and see how many friends and family we could get to actually donate some coats,” said Judge Dawson.
