1. IRAQ VIOLENCE

Militants on the move: Iraqi cities seem to be falling with relative ease, unaided by a military that has bolted and a militant group bent on continuing its march forward. Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city, is already in the control of theIslamic State in Iraq and Syria. And early today, an audio recording purportedly from the Islamist militants threatened a takeover of more, including the capital Baghdad. Keep an eye on this, things are happening fast.

2. CASEY KASEM

Final days: A critically ill Casey Kasem is in the middle of a legal and media battle between his children and their stepmother. Yesterday, a Los Angeles County judge gave daughter Kerri Kasem the authority to have doctors end his infusions of water, food and medicine, reversing his own ruling. No announcement about his care has been made by the family.

3. LAS VEGAS SHOOTING

New details: Sheriff’s deputies delivered the fatal wound that killed a man who, along with his wife, gunned down two police officers and a civilian in Las Vegas over the weekend. Authorities said earlier that the woman shot and killed her husband before taking her own life. But Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters yesterday that a review of forensic evidence at the scene and autopsy results showed that police fatally wounded the gunman.
