Several Cleveland city council members grilled leaders in Mayor Jackson’s administration about the pothole problem plaguing the city. The council’s public works committee asked Paul Barnett, the interim streets director and Darnell Brown, the city’s Chief Operating Officer why city streets are in such poor shape.
Many council members say they are getting flooded with complaints about potholes in residential areas and the process and time it takes to get reimbursed for any damages.
City officials say they are in the process of purchasing more vehicles to tackle the problem. They are also using a device called the “Pothole Killer” to fill holes, at a cost of $250,000. Councilwoman Dona Brady questioned why the city hires a contractor to do the work, rather than buy the equipment. Public Works leaders say the technology is patented by one particular company.
