Cleveland City Councilman Zach Reed calls the unprovoked physical attacks on Cleveland’s Public Square hate crimes.

The video of the beatings was captured by security cameras and shown exclusively on Channel 3 News.

“When you go out into the streets of Cleveland to do harm to individuals based on their nationality, their gender or religion, I think those are hate crimes and I think what happened on Public Square was clearly a hate crime,” Reed said.

At least six people said they were assaulted and, in some cases, robbed of their wallets and cell phones in random attacks on St. Patrick’s Day.
