James Ward had dreams of being the next great music producer, on the level of Quincy Jones or David Foster.

But God had other plans for his life.

“I had done very well at performance in music. I also had strong business acumen. I understood the corporate side of music, the industry side,” the gifted drummer told CBN’s 700 Club.

By age 22, he was on the road with his jazz band, having the time of his life, when God stopped him in his tracks after finishing up a show in Boston.

James said,  “People were around, having drinks and having cigars and I hear within myself the voice of the Lord. There was no question about who it was.”

“It was one of the most authoritative times I’ve ever heard the voice of the Lord speak to me and say, ‘James, I want your life.’ I knew exactly what it meant.”

Though the traveling musician had professed faith in Christ as a youngster, he strayed away during his college years. But that moment of beckoning became a day of reckoning for James.
