Whenever and wherever injustice occurs, followers of Christ must be at the forefront of the campaign for change.

After learning that a grand jury once again failed to indict a white police officer for killing an unarmed and innocent black child, the anger and outrage rightfully spilled out all over the Internet.

How should you, an empowered Christian, respond to the wrongful murder of 12-year-old Tamir Rice and the failure of America’s so-called justice system to bring justice?

1. Speak out.

History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people.” (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.)

Words have power. Use your social platform, organization, church pulpit and whatever outlet you have to condemn what happened to Tamir November 22, 2014 when Police Officer Timothy Loehmann murdered him for playing with a toy gun. Furthermore, fiercely speak against prosecutor Timothy McGinty’s statement that, “The death of Tamir Rice was an absolute tragedy. But it was not, by the law that binds us, a crime.”

Wrong. It was a crime.

Dissenting voices, though insufficient on their own, are necessary to mobilize movements.  Don’t allow your silence to be mistaken for compliance and complacence. Black lives matter. Say it.
