The stakes could not be higher for Trump in extraordinary split screen week:

Even by the combustible standards of Donald Trump, the spectacle set to unfold around his presidency in time zones 12 hours apart in the next few days could defy description.

On one side of the planet, Michael Cohen, the President’s former personal lawyer, is expected to dish dirt in a congressional hearing on Trump’s turbulent personal and business affairs that are becoming an increasing legal and political threat.

On the other side in Vietnam, Trump will be pursuing a Nobel Peace Prize, convening a second summit and media extravaganza with North Korean tyrant Kim Jong Un that will take place despite a lack of genuine progress since their first encounter

R. Kelly fails to make bail. Child support, overdue rent among his many money problems:

R. Kelly, one of the most successful R&B acts of all time, was still in jail Sunday afternoon after he failed to immediately produce the $100,000 in cash required to make bail.

A judge in Chicago set Kelly’s total bond at $1 million on Saturday, a day after he was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse against four victims, three of whom would have been underage at the time of the alleged crimes, according to prosecutors.
Kelly’s bond was set at $250,000 for each of the alleged victims in the case. To leave police custody, he’s required to pay 10% of the total, or $100,000.

widely criticized Australian newspaper cartoon showing tennis legend Serena Williams jumping up and down next to a broken racket and a pacifier which she had spat out was not racist, according to the country’s media watchdog.

The Australian Press Council ruled that the drawing, published by Murdoch group newspaper the Herald Sun, did not breach Australia’s press standards and instead was capturing Williams’ “on-court tantrum” at the 2018 US Open final “using satire, caricature, exaggeration and humor.”
The cartoon was published shortly after the bad-tempered final, in which Williams had a dispute with the umpire over his allegedly sexist treatment. The press watchdog received a number of complaints about the image, which drew international condemnation.

He spent 39 years in prison for a double murder he didn’t commit. Now, he’s getting $21 million:

Craig Coley never should have spent 39 years in prison. On this, everyone seems to agree. They also concur the 71-year-old should spend the rest of his life as a wealthy man.

Simi Valley announced Saturday it would settle a federal lawsuit, giving Coley $21 million for his almost four decades of wrongful incarceration in the 1978 murders of Rhonda Wicht and her 4-year-old son, Donald. Thirty-nine years is the longest prison term overturned in California, the city says.
“While no amount of money can make up for what happened to Mr. Coley, settling this case is the right thing to do for Mr. Coley and our community,” City Manager Eric Levitt said in a statement, adding that going to trial would be costly and irresponsible.
Often, the wrongfully convicted face lengthy battles over how they should be compensated for their imprisonment as localities blame previous administrations and squabble over what monetary sum amounts to atonement.
