A Cleveland police officer was shot early Thursday morning while chasing suspect.
The incident occurred outside of a home on Tompkins Avenue around midnight. The officer suffered a gunshot wound in the thigh and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was treated and released for his injuries.
The incident started with a suspicious car investigation at West 83 Street and Lorain. While police were investigating, someone fired three shots at a Cleveland officers and one of those bullets struck an officer in the leg.
A foot pursuit ensued, ending in the backyard of a home on Thompkins Avenue, where police shot and killed the man about a block away from the original shots being fired. Police said that the man fired more rounds at police before he was killed.
