Many empowered Christian women love quoting the self-affirming scripture in Psalm 139:14 that says, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful.” But silently, they are struggling with insecurity as they obsessively compare themselves to others.

This can lead to depression, feelings of inferiority, jealousy and unhealthy competition, which the Bible clearly speaks against. James 3:16 says, “For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind.” Nothing good can come of jealous comparisons, only disorder and evil.

Not only is it a bad idea to compare, but it also doesn’t make much sense!

Comparing yourself to other people is like comparing apples and oranges. Though they share some similarities, being that they are both fruit, the two are very different. They look differentl outwardly and have an entirely different flavor inwardly. Just like you.

An apple can’t be orange because it’s, well, an apple!

God obviously loves diversity and uniqueness. If he didn’t, the world would be pretty boring. Go outside and just look around you. Notice how vast His creation is with all the different flowers, species of fish, birds, insects, and the list goes on.

Do you really think God intended you to be an exact replica of your neighbor? No way!

God intended for you to be unique, just the way you are.

Your looks, personality, and personal experiences work together to make you the extraordinary person God designed you to be.

So stop insulting His design.

Do you struggle with comparisons?
